Tracy Blair-Funnell I have loved reading and the world of imagination ever since, as a teenager, I read Stephen King’s The Stand. I have always enjoyed writing my own stories, too, but had to put that on hold for around 35 years (I think I forgot about it actually) to work and raise a family. In late 2012, I began writing again (don’t know what compelled me, but I had to) and my short story “The Attic,” received 18th place out of 5,900 entries and was included in the Writer’s Digest 2013 short, short story competition anthology. What a thrill! And Mardibooks, the London-based publisher, also included my work in an anthology. Another short story, “Affliction,” was an editor’s pick on Book Country, an online website run by Penguin Books (now defunct, unfortunately). The Adoption, available on Amazon, is my first full-length novel. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my wife and three wonderful adopted children, ages 11, 10 and 8. I write in the early morning hours before work, and I am currently working on—at readers’ request—the sequel to The Adoption. The short story, “Loose Change,” was born a few years ago from a contest held on AuthorStand (also gone now), a community of writers sharing their work. I believe the prompt was something like: Write a story about what happens to a character who finds some loose change. And this is what I came up with. What can I say? My mind leans towards the macabre, the strange, and the just plain weird. Oh, and I love reading, movies, nature, road trips and hanging out with my wonderful family. Thank you for taking the time to read.
